I have just finished a small oil painting study. I have been very interested in Soto Zen Buddhism for over two years, and my meditation follows Zazen principles.
My aim with this still-life painting was to create a meditative, quiet work. The group is side-lit and the colour is purposely close toned. I found the subtlety of tone challenging, and had to completely repaint the background and shelf area a few times.
I enjoy the discipline of this type of painting, working within tight parameters. Oil paint is an ideal medium for delicate changes in both colour and tone.
